Louis P. Chisholm, Jr., 86, passed away at his Elk Creek Farm on Lake Anna in Louisa County on May 23, 2010, following an extended illness. He was the youngest child of Louis P. Chisholm, Sr. and Ruby Harris Chisholm . He is also preceded in death by his sister: Edith Chisholm Behrens ; his brothers: William Leroy, Raymond Nelson, Edward Morris, and an infant brother.
Louis is survived by his wife of 60 years: Claudia Page Anderson of Buckingham County; his son: Dr. Louis Randolph "Randy" Chisholm and his wife Wendy Willis of Midlothian, VA; his daughter: Brenda Page Morris and her husband William P. "Bill" of Orange, VA; his three grandchildren: Sarah Elizabeth Chisholm of Raleigh, NC, Blake Randolph Chisholm, and Kristen Page Morris. Louis' education began at Fredericks Hall and Mineral with post graduate study at the new Louisa High School. He entered VPI in 1941. His education was interrupted by World War II. After serving eighteen months in Occupational Forces in Japan, he returned to VPI. Then he received the Block and Bridle Scholarship for outstanding scholastic ability, personality, and character. He also was named to Alpha Zeta Agricultural Honorary Fraternity. In 1949, he received his BS degree in Animal Husbandry. He returned to Louisa County to continue the family farming operation. In 1957, he joined the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation as a Field Representative in twenty-five eastern counties. In future years, he served as Manager of VFB Service Corporation and Director of the Products Division and State Secretary. He was honored with the Warren Beach Award, the VFB Distinguished Service Award, and the Virginia Tech Award in Agriculture and Life Service. After retiring from VFB in 1987, Louis returned to Louisa County to his family farming operation. He served on the Board of Supervisions representing Cuckoo District during much of the negotiation with Virginia Power in the creating of the North Anna Power Plant and Lake Anna. He served on the Board of Directors of Bank of America (1979-1993), the Soil and Water Conservation District, and was a forty year member of the Ruritan Club and a Life Member of Louisa County Historical Society. In 1999 Chisholm received the The Virginia Cooperative Extension Award for outstanding leadership and service and also the Good Neighbor Award from Lake Anna Civic Association for outstanding contributions, leadership, and service to the people of Louisa County. Louis served as longtime chairman of the Louisa School Board, The Virginia Farm Bureau Learning Barn was given in his honor to the Louisa County Schools. He was a lifetime member of Elk Creek Baptist Church where he served as trustee, deacon, treasurer, Sunday School teacher, and moderator of the Goshen Baptist Association.
Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at 11:00 A.M., at Elk Creek Baptist Church, 5916 Kentucky Spring Road, Mineral, Virginia, 23117 Dr. Lynwood Jenkins will officiate, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends, Tuesday, May 25, 2010, from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., at Woodward Funeral Home, Louisa, VA.
