Maureen Elizabeth Smith Siewert of Louisa, Virginia, passed away on July 17, 2010 after a lengthy battle with lung cancer and Alzheimer's Dementia.

Born in Chicago, Illinois on September 8, 1932, she was the youngest daughter of Agnes M. and William C. Smith, founder of William C. Smith and Sons Funeral Home. She attended St. Genevieve's Catholic School and graduated from Notre Dame High School and Rosary College (Dominican University).

After graduation, she married Raymond F. Siewert, Jr. They moved frequently and settled in Springfield, Virginia where they raised their seven children. After staying home to raise her children for many years, she began working for Drs. Murphy, Balsamo, Arnoldson and Reese, eventually becoming office manager before retiring in 1992. After retirement, she moved to Lake Anna in Louisa County.

She was extensively involved in St. Jude's Catholic Church in Louisa, singing in the choir, overseeing the prayer network, fundraising, and volunteering in many capacities. She was active in her community as a volunteer rescue squad driver, officer in the community association, and officer in the local chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Workers.

She is preceded in death by her parents and two sisters; Joan Pierce of Schaumburg, Illinois and Eileen Crain, of California, also two brothers: William C. and Lawrence Smith of Chicago, Illinois.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, who she affectionately called "Pat," two brothers, Robert Smith of Chicago, Illinois and Richard Smith of Durham, North Carolina as well as seven children, Mary (Dave) Ward of Roanoke, VA; Joan (Bob) Stromberg of La Grange, KY, Peggy (Dennis) Gahan of Catonsville, MD; Ray (Kim) of Largo, FL; Bill (Sherie) of Dumfries, VA; Maureen (Billy) Meyers, of Lexington, KY; Patrick (Cynthia) of Richmond, VA and 24 grandchildren: Jeremy, Allison, Nathaniel Ward, Joe, Elizabeth, Mick, Mary, John, Maggie, Theresa, Mark, Cecelia and Thomas Stromberg, Mike, Katie, and Danny Gahan, Katherine and Levi Siewert, Emily and Amy Siewert, Gillian Meyers, Jimmy and Brendan Siewert.

Maureen will be known best for her love of people and her out-going and generous nature. Her faith was a cornerstone of her character. She loved all things Irish, she loved to fish, she loved Chicago and she loved her family.

Viewing is scheduled for Wednesday, July 21, 6-8 pm at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Mineral, VA. The funeral will be held on Thursday, July 22 at 11 am at St. Jude's followed by the internment in the parish cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Care of Piedmont or St. Jude's Building Fund are requested.
