Walter Carey Jones, 77, of Bumpass, VA, formerly of Vienna, VA, passed away peacefully in his home Thursday, July 22, 2010. Born March, 11, 1933 the eldest of 5 children, he is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley Jones; his two sons, Walter and William Jones; daughter, Elaine Grider; six grandchildren: Marylouise and Elizabeth Jones, Benjamin and Abby Jones, and Willie and Rachel Grider; daughters-in-law, Janet Jones and Tammy Jones, and son-in-law, Tim Grider; and sisters, Elizabeth Pelzer and Lillie Ramirez.
From humble beginnings, he rose through his chosen trade becoming a master carpenter, ultimately owning his own company, Walt Jones Inc. One of his proudest personal accomplishments was building his own home in Vienna, Virginia.
Walter and his wife Shirley retired to Lake Anna in 1992 where he pursued his lifelong hobbies of boating, fishing, and gardening. He served the community as a property manager and was known for being a kind and generous neighbor.
A celebration of Walter's life will be held on August 21st at 12:00 pm at 860 Carrs Bridge Road, Bumpass, VA. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Hospice Foundation, 2120 L.
