Guestbook for Martha Jane Sjostrom Showing 1 - 10 of 42 entries.

It is with great sorry that I have belatedly learned of the death of Martha, my senior prom date in the Spring of 1975, at Fort Defiance High School. She was a delightful, warm, caring friend. And her family was most gracious to me, welcoming me to the farm twice that summer. Very special memories of a very special woman: Martha.

Murf and Jeff, I read of your sister Martha in the Waynesboro paper and although I did not personally know Martha, from reading the questbook she sounded like a wonderful woman. I think of you and our wonderful adventure at Emory and Henry and please know you are in my prayers. Dawn

I was saddened to see Martha's ob in the paper. And surprised, I didn't know she was right here in my backyard. Many years ago I was Martha and Nancy's hair stylist in Waynesboro. I remember Martha was always trying to get Nancy to quit smoking. They were both very dear ladies. I know you will miss Martha!

Martha was a great lady. I had the good fortune to play mixed doubles with her on several occasions. She had the greatest attitude towards the game and I guess she would have had the same in her life. I learned a lot from being her partner. By the way, we never lost to anyone.

My greatest condolences to the family.

May she rest in peace.

** God!! You are lucky. You have found a good partner to play tennis with. Keep her happy. **

I first got to know Martha in the spring of 2007. I had just gotten home from the hospital after bypass surgery, when she emailed me to introduce herself and to offer her help and support.

We had never met but had played tennis with many of the same folks for years. She said that she had heard about me, and was eager to share that she had the same operation a few years earlier.

She knew exactly how down I was feeling. A couple of weeks earlier I had thought I was 100% healthy, but now what? Was I ever going to get back to playing tennis and having a normal life again?

Well, Martha's words and her example made a huge difference in my outlook.

But she wasn't done yet.

When I was finally cleared to begin "light hitting" on the court, Martha stepped up again. She said she knew it was awkward to ask folks to come out and play when it was only half-speed. So she made herself available to hit with me - in between all her many matches - throughout the time until I could go full-speed again.

Thanks again, Martha. I'll never forget you.

Mary Erma and Jay, What a shock to hear of Martha Jane's passing. I think of your family often and remember all the good times we had together. Your family has always and will continue to be truly special to me and my family.
My parents and my sister Judy send their condolences also.

We were so sorry to learn of Martha J. passing and want to express our deep sympathy. Your Mother, Father and all of you were such special friends of our family. We remember with pleasure our time with you at Lake Anna, in New Hope & the library.
Martha had so many gifts. While we have not seen her for some years, she will always have a special place in our hearts and memory.
You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Mary and John--I am saddened to learn of Martha's passing. I hired Martha at Crompton Company in Waynesboro upon her graduation from JMU and I have fond memories of our several years working together before she left for Richmond. Martha was always the consummate professional and gained immediate respect from all who worked with her. Heaven is today a better place because of Martha's presence and you were both blessed by God to have her as a sister. May God comfort you at this time.
